GARDEN CALCULATOR

Use the Garden Calculator to Determine How Many Cubic Yards of Premium Soil & Mulch You'll Need.

Any project calculation will require an estimate of the Square Feet multiplied by the Depth and divided by 27 to determine the Cubic Yards of soil required. To use our Garden Calculator, simply:

  1. Enter the Square Feet (whole numbers only)
  2. Enter the Depth Required in inches (whole numbers only)
  3. Hit "Calculate"

The Garden Calculator will do the math and present the total Cubic Yards required.

"What If" Calculations

You can also use the Garden Calculator for "What If" scenarios. If you'd like to see how many Square Feet a certain amount of Cubic Yards will cover at a specific Depth, simply enter those variables in the calculator to determine the coverage in Square Feet. Entering any two variables (Square Footage, Depth, or Cubic Yards) in the Garden Calculator will determine the total of the third variable.

Square Feet = Length (in feet) x Width (in feet) rounded to a whole number i.e. 12.5' x 10.5' = 131.25 or 131 sq. ft.

Depth = measured in inches, i.e. 1/2",1", 2", 3", 4", 6,"

Cubic Yards = Square Feet (L x W) x Depth/27 = Cubic Yards. Your result from the Garden Calculator may be expressed as less or more than a whole number, i.e. 1.26 cubic yards. When ordering, round up or down to the nearest 1/2 cubic yard. Example: 1.26 cubic yards should be ordered as 1.5 cubic yards.

If you'd like to do your own calculations, you must divide the inches of Depth by 12 to express depth as a decimal number. Example: 2" / 12" = .166666 (round up to .17). Then you can do the math yourself. Example: 200 Sq. Feet (10'L x 20'W) x .17 (2" Depth)/27 = 1.26 Cubic Yards.
